Delegation from Kazakhstani city’s public health bureau visits Daegu May 14 – 18
Daegu Metropolitan City formed a memorandum of understanding on May 17 to boost medical exchange with Astana,
as a delegation from the Kazakhstani city visited Daegu from May 14 – 18 to galvanize medical cooperation.
The visit was made after a medical doctor from the Kazakhstani national hospital, who learned surgery at Women’s
Medi Park Hospital last April, requested that her government invite hospital President, Dr. Yeo Jun-kyu, to come and
lecture in Kazakhstan. Dr. Yeo demonstrated and lectured on diverse gynecological procedures using the
laparoscope, including uterine myoma extraction, plastic surgery, and virginal plastic surgery.
During Dr. Yeo’s visit, professionals in Astana City were deeply impressed by Daegu’s advanced medical technology
which differed from Seoul’s, and ended up visiting Daegu in person to inspect the level of medicine in various areas,
including gynecology, and to engage in exchange.
The delegation visited Dongsan Medical Center, Yeongnam University Hospital, Daegu Industrial Accident Hospital, the
Hair Transplantation Center, and toured Daegu’s medical tourism system, while inspecting medical technology in
various fields, including gynecological, cardiovascular, pediatric, plastic surgery, and rehabilitation departments.
Notably, Daegu Metropolitan City also inked a memorandum of understanding for medical exchange, including
operation of medical doctor training programs, operation of training programs for overseas medical doctors, and
referral of patients with hard-to-cure diseases in Kazakhstan to Daegu.
