- The robot industry in Daegu expected to take off with the establishment of the cluster -
The Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA) will start the full scale construction of a robot industrial cluster this year, which will cost a total of 37.6 billion won (12.8 billion won of central government expenditure and 24.8 billion of local government expenditure).
- Ground was broken to build the Robot Industry Cluster Center on a land site of 12,053§³ in the Third Industrial Complex in Buk-gu, Daegu. To be completed in May 2015, the center will consist of the Robot Innovation Center, with five stories above ground and a basement, and the one-story Robot Cooperative Factory. They will have a total floor space of 11,313§³.
- The Robot Innovation Center is aimed at forming an industrial complex and will include spaces for 38 companies and the facilities to develop robots and verify their functions. The Robot Cooperative Factory will manufacture robots for commercialization.
*Facilities for manufacturers: thirty 100§³ rooms, six 200§³ rooms and two 470§³ rooms.
- The facilities for the development and production of robot products include equipment in a total of 145 categories, including equipment for designing and interpreting robots, facilities for trial production, and equipment for performance and reliability tests. These facilities will be built in stages beginning this year.
The cluster center, when completed, will fall in line with the facilities necessary for all processes involved in the production and commercialization of robots: from production, performance tests to mass production and marketing, which will enable a one-stop support system for manufacturers. The center will greatly contribute to heightening the competitiveness of the robot industry as well as other robot-related industries, such as the machine and parts industries, in the Daegu-Gyeongsangbuk-do region.
- The cluster is expected to serve as a new growth engine of the Daegu-Gyeongsangbuk-do region by bringing an increase of 540 billion won in production and creating 290 billion won worth of additional value and 7,000 jobs.
