Daegu City and the Daegu Medical Tourism Promotion Council jointly opened a Daegu office for the promotion of medical tourism, in the city, in a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Zhuzhou, Hunan, China, on May 20. The office is headed by Gam Hyeo-rim (Chinese national), who is the local partner of the Daegu Medical Tourism Promotion Council.
Daegu City has been making continuous efforts to develop medical tourism in the city. While founding the Daegu Medical Tourism Promotion Council and the Medical Tourism Information Center, the city has been continuously exploring overseas medical tourism markets, developing advanced medical technology and conducting marketing linked to its MICE tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) industry.
Following the office opened in Guiyang in October 2012, Daegu opened four other promotional offices in China, including those in Shenyang, Qingdao, and Shenzhen. The office in Hunan is the fifth. These offices will provide momentum to the city’s efforts to promote Daegu as a medical city and will induce more medical tourists from China to Korea.
The local partner in Hunan, Gam Hyeo-rim, inspected the medical facilities in Daegu in January before he launched the promotional office in Hunan. He has already started promotional marketing to induce tourists from across Hunan Province to come to Korea.
The promotional office in Hunan is expected to contribute to drawing more tourists from China by strengthening the marketing efforts in inner China. It will also enable a system to be set up that allows the sharing of information and that facilitates the cooperation necessary for inducing foreign patients, which would allow Daegu to develop and promote medical tourism products tailored for local people.
The local offices are implementing promotional activities in accordance with the policy of Daegu City on medical tourism. They are also promoting safe and reliable medical tourism in Korea, which is expected to greatly contribute to enhancing the reputation of Korea’s medical tourism industry in China.
Cha Sun-do, chairman of the Daegu Medical Tourism Promotion Council, said, “The opening of the promotional office in Hunan is expected to strengthen marketing in central and southern China. We plan to open additional offices in Chinese cities, including Shanghai (in May), Guilin in Guangxi Province, Ningbo, and Yunnan, as well as Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Toronto in Canada, which will serve as hubs for Daegu’s global medical tourism marketing efforts.”
