The New Drug Development Center of the Daegu Gyeongbuk Medical Innovation Foundation (DGMIF) has selected eight organizations that will implement the 3 billion won project for R&D of new medicines this year, under the financial support of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.
The center selected the beneficiaries through an open competition, which was participated in by 72 organizations from industrial, academic and research organizations. Screening for the selection took about two months. The eight selected organizations will undertake five projects in the development of potential drug candidates, a field that remains an undeveloped area in Korea, and four projects in the development of basic technology, in cooperation with the center.
The five projects in the development of potential drug candidates will emphasize research on the steps for the optimization of new drug substances that can be developed into promising new drugs in the future. The four projects in the development of basic technology are for the promotion of joint research and technological services that can be widely utilized in developing new drugs.
Kim Seong-heon, senior researcher at the New Drug Development Center, said the center will offer to the selected organizations a tailored service necessary for implementing the tasks, making the best use of its professional manpower and high-tech facilities, and do its utmost to achieve the goal of developing global-level new drugs.
